History About Statue of Unity 

The Statue of Unity is a monument dedicated to Vallabhbhai Patel, the leader of the Indian independence movement. It is located near Bharuch on the Sadhu Bat in the river 3.2 km away in front of Sardar Sarovar Dam. The area of ​​this monument is 30,000 square meters and it covers an area of ​​15 square kilometers. The area is surrounded by an artificial lake. At 12 meters high, which includes a 15-meter statue and a 9-meter high pedestal, the monument is the tallest statue in the world.

The monument was announced in 2010. The initial total cost of the monument was estimated at INR 2,001 crore by the Government of India. In October 2016, Larsen & Toubro bid the lowest amount for construction, design, and maintenance and won the contract, which was INR 4.5 crore. The design of the monumental statue was by Ram V. Was made by a carpenter. Construction started on October 31, 2016, and was completed in mid-October 2016. It was formally inaugurated by Narendra Modi, the 16th Prime Minister of India, on 31 October 2017, the 18th birth anniversary of Sardar Patel.

Narendra Modi announced the memorial at the beginning of his 10th year as the Chief Minister of Gujarat in a press conference on October 8, 2010. At that time this scheme was presented to the country as a contribution of Gujarat. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Rashtriya Ekta Trust (SVPRET) was specially set up by the Government of Gujarat in December 2016 for the purpose of construction and publicity of this monument.

Various programs were organized by the Government of Gujarat for the promotion of the memorial. Farmers were urged to assemble their unused old farming implements iron. By 2014, 12 metric tonnes of iron scrap had been collected, of which 104 metric tonnes were used for the foundation of the monument. The race called Run for Unity was organized on 15th December 2016 in Surat.
